Hiring Resources

UC President’s and Chancellor’s fellows are highly competitive faculty candidates that are widely recruited throughout the U.S. To help retain fellows and support campuses who wish to hire fellows into their faculty, multiple tools are available.

Faculty Hiring Incentive Program

Campuses that wish to hire President’s and Chancellor’s Fellows awarded from 1996 onward into ladder rank position may utilize the Faculty Hiring Incentive program. The incentive program provides funds to support competitive recruitment of fellows. The incentive is available to support hiring qualified fellows into their first UC ladder rank position. Former fellows returning to UC after holding positions elsewhere can also be supported through this program.

Please contact the program office for details.

UC President’s STEM Startup Initiative

The UC President’s STEM Startup Initiative provides an additional hiring funds to support the assembly of competitive startup packages for qualifying President’s and Chancellor’s fellows recruited into ladder rank positions in STEM disciplines that normally require significant startup costs. The initiative is active as funds are available. Please contact the PPFP office for details on any currently active STEM Startup initiative. These funds are generally limited and require notification of the PPFP office prior to inclusion in any negotiated offers.

Use of Waivers of Open Search

In exceptional cases, campuses may consider utilizing a waiver of open search to recruit qualifying fellows. This permits the recruitment of exceptional fellows that may require an alteration of campus hiring plans or to leverage other opportunities and resources. Waivers should be approved using established campus procedures. The UC Academic Senate has provided guidelines for the appropriate use of search waivers, including the Early Career Target of Excellence waiver under which qualifying President’s and Chancellor’s fellows may fall.
